Christmas Eve musings from Colwyn Bay

Posted by mixollagymixmaster at 08:06 PM on December 23, 2008 Comments comments (0)

i can't believe it, Christmas Eve already!

Those of you using Planet TT-Forums to read this may notice this is from my old blog, that's because my new blog's hosts are having issues. anyway.

I came back to Wales two days ago, after spending the weekend at my Girlfriend's in Sheffeild, i really enjoyed myself but now i'm back in Wales i'm feeling ill and physically tired, let me explain.

Coming home on monday wasn't without problems. the first problem was me and my girlfriend went to catch a tram to Maedowhall, where i was to catch my train, i got on the tram and walked over to the other side of it (the side where the doors were closed) and went to stand there with my suitcase, as i did so my left knee 'popped' - in other words dislocated, then popped in again, this hasn't happened for a good thwo years, and luckily the tram was still at the stop, i immediately started to feel giddy, so me and my gir;freind got off the tram, my girlfriend managed to get me sat down and found my mobile, where i then called my mum, amd talked to her, by this time i felt really nauseous, and my mum (still on the phone) asked my girlfriend to run and get me some bottled water from the nearest shop, which she did, while she was away my mum was trying to keep me calm, when suddenly i felt faint and was physically ill (to put it nicely), i then started to come round rather quickly and then my girlfriend came back with the water, it was then decided i was to still catch the train back, but taking things easy, in case i had damaged my knee.

I swept through the upper Peak District before changing at Manchester, met my mum at colwyn bay, came home, had tea, then slept from 20:00 - 09:00, i was exhausted.

I shall post again before my visit to Blackpool.

Nadolig Llawen! Merry Christmas! Joyeux Noel! Feliz Navidad!

oh, and my dog molly sends her licks, she's glad i;m home smile

I know it's somewhat early, i've had too much sleep recently, and am now going to have to do one of my long days to get my sleeping pattern back into order (bed around midnight, up around 9 am)

Anyway, as the title suggests, things are happening, Firstly, I've moved from Knaresborough to Kingston Upon Hull, as has previously been mentioned here before, I am going to be attending the university here, which I'm getting excited about, my first actual day of being in a class is on Monday, at 16:15 (my timetable is available here) and will last until 17:10, after that I shall head home and prepare for my first speaking lesson of the semester. After that I should get a weekly pattern of things to do, and will be hopefully keeping to the same routine

My holiday is coming up in around 6 day's time, and that is going to be very exciting! More on that when I return.

My darling sister has had a lovely baby girl, and all I'm going to say is that I'm glad I live in hull and she lives in Llandudno.

Also I've had Natalie, my girlfriend, staying over for the last 5 days (she goes home later) to sample the life and city that's going to be mine for a few years to come.

Anyway, I've written enough, time to go and find something else to keep me quietly entertained, seeing as I can't do anything noisy else it wake Natalie.

TTFN big grin

Oh, and to clear up my last post: the student finance company have now seen my passport (a trip to Darlington dealt with that) and now i'm just waiting confirmation of it all.

University woes

I'm confused now, things were going well for uni, and now there's a problem, my mother's income isn't that much (she's a communications support worker for the deaf in a school)
but my stepfather (a mechasnic for the AA) earns more than the 'cut off' allowed by the student finance company, so i could end up getting sweet FA, which i don't want.
The confusing bit is this: I've been away from home (independant from my parents) for 2 years and 10 months (3 years in November) and thus could be entitled to more, but my parents don't think so.; so i may well not go this year to uni sad

More soon...

Summer Update

I've been meaning to do this for quite a while, but things have been happening fast.

The biggest change is I'm leaving Knaresborough and heading to Hull, to the University there to do a 4 year BA in French, after that I may move down to Cardiff, to do some work for the WAG (Welsh Assembly Government) or to London, to work for Last.fm

In Other News, i'm going on holiday in October for 10 days, 6 of which will be spent on trains in the lovely country of Switzerland. including the Glacier Express, my friends Ed and Gillian will be joining me for this once in a lifetime trip, and i'm kind of excited.
My sleeping patterns are improving, just - i'm managing to get up at 8 - 9 am now, and going to bed about 1 - 1:30 am, i just need to get myself back to 10pm and things will be good big grin

And Finally, i must mention that this is my first time ever to have a steam train stop just outside my house here in Knaresborough - The Scarborough Spa Express ran daily during the summer, and has stopped in Knaresborough every day! it runs in a loop from York -> Harrogate -> Leeds -> York -> Scarborough and then back again in the evening.

Anyway, I'll put some pictures and video onto my flickr account

Have fun!

More Trains

My intentions started out good... i was meant to be going to Hull to visit Sacro but annoyingy, he was busy, so, i went to York, and saw my first ever HST up close and LOUD! after that I travelled north, to my ex -  work's headquaters in Northallerton, where i had a look around the town and then spent 2 hours sunbathing and trainspotting at the station, before finally deciding to return home.

Northallerton is quite scary because you have trains running at 125 mph through the station, and it's only 2 platforms, however, there was plenty of warning of an incoming high speed train, and i was sat on a bench quite a way from the platform edge, so, i watched class 91's, 43's, 221's all zipping past and 185's stopping - about the only trains to actually stop at the station!

May - and some Trains

Where is 2008 going? it's 5 months into the year, and already it's getting warm!

My holiday in october's booked, the only problem is spending money.... i was made redundant 2 weeks ago from the libraries and ever since i've been living on benefits alone, i need a fast cash scheme, as life in Harrogate is expensive.

Today was fun, i took my girlfriend to her sister's so she coud go on holiday, Starting in Harrogate, we went to Leeds, then to Wakefield, where we said our goodbyes, then I returned via York to Knaresborough, spotting quite a few disused stations along the lne from York - Knaresborough, which is a shame, as Dr Beeching was probably the cause of the closures, a long time ago Harrogate was an important raikway centre, now it's a backwater on a branch line.

Trains used today were a class 153 to Leeds, class 225 to Wakefield, Class 221 (Voyager) to York and a 153 back to Knaresborugh,  i was lucky, the class 142's were out in force today on the line.

One other interesting thing, whilst sitting in York at platform 8, there was a space for another "bay" which, at one time, could have been platform 7, If the future predictions are correct, that bay may be reinstated to provide services "up north".

Ok, Time to go... the next train to depart from platform 1 is the 18:24 Northern Rail service to.....

Can't really think of anything to write about, so i've dug up this funny email

The train was quite crowded, so a Redneck U. S. Marine walked the entire
length looking for a seat, but the only seat left was taken by a well
dressed, middle-aged, French woman's poodle.

The war-weary Marine asked, 'Ma'am, may I have that seat?'

The French woman just sniffed and said to no one in particular 'Americans
are so rude. My little Fifi is using that seat.'

The Marine walked the entire train again, but the only seat left was
under that dog.

'Please, ma'am. May I sit down? I'm very tired.'

She snorted, 'Not only are you Americans rude, you are also arrogant!'

This time the Marine didn't say a word; he just picked up the little
dog, tossed it out the train window, and sat down.

The woman shrieked, 'Someone must defend my honor! this American should
be put in his place!'

An English gentleman sitting nearby spoke up, 'Sir, you Americans often
seem to have a penchant for doing the wrong thing.

You hold the fork in the wrong hand.

You drive your autos on the wrong side of the road.

And now, sir, you seem to have thrown the wrong bitch out the window.

Feeling Better

I have not been feeling myself, as you probably may know, now, i'm feeling much better, and i'll be back to normal sometime soon, In the meantime, i am going to  Birmingham tomorrow to see the Library and Informatin Show, purely because nobody else from North Yorkshire County Council's going, and just so i get a feeling of what my library work will become in the future. I will publish a report on my website aboit it soon...

On another note, Spring is here, and i'm really enjoying the sunshine we have had here, I have been to Leeds twice in two days, although it rained the 1st time i went.

Anyhow, i'm going....I must sort out the 'housekeeping' money *sigh*

What's happening?

Look at the post time.. 2:38 AM! i have been like this for a while now, i might have to take sleeping pills, as i'm really struggling with quite a lot of fhings on my mind

Firstly I can see me and my mum having a very serious fall out, which could mean i end up.... i dunno, anyway, to top that all, i have to do my housework, my NVQ work, as well as 2 voluntary commitments a week. I'm not coping very well.

Secondly, I have noticed that i'm becoming quite protective over the things I own, including Rachael, which means as a result of probably over protectiveness i have damaged our relationship.

Now it's not all bad news, well it's actually more anoying then bad, but why have North Yorkshire failed to produce my new national travel pass? I WORK FOR THEM FOR GOD'S SAKE!

It's some good news! I am going to the Library and Information exhibition a wek on Wednesday, all by myself, it's at the NEC, and it's really a trade fair, but i couldn't resist a look at what sounds to be quite an interesting event, i even get free entry, oh, the ony downside is a £30 train fare there and back, but it's with CrossCountry, which will be interesting

Right, i must try to sleep, i have to be up in a few hours

What a Week!

My God! i've only just stopped rushing around as of.... NOW!
I have been working/travelling over the last 11 days non stop, and finally I get to rest.....

Sunday, i worked in Knaresborough's library 11:00 - 1600 BST, but i was late
Monday, i worked in the library in Harrogate, from 0930 - 2000 BST,
and i wa son time
Tuesday, i was working at Avalon from 1000 - 1400, then I had to go to Harrogate, i arrived back home at 1700
Wednesday was spent at a First Aid Training Course from 0930 - 1500, when I then went directly to my girlfriend's as she'd had Laser Treatment
Thursday, that was rubish, I was doing mobility to Boroughbridge, and then missed the return bus, so, i went firstly to York, then to Wetherby, then back to Knaresborough again, all by bus, which took 4 hours! and about an hour later i was packing for going back to my parent's house for the weekend...
Friday, Got up at 8 am, had some food, then went and got the bus to Leeds, had a look around the city, then I travelled to Manchester, and waited 40 minutes for my train, I arrived at my parent's at 1730, after leaving Knaresborough at 1000
Today and Sunday i'm resting, and then on Monday i'm going all the way back 'up north'

The total cost? £70 for a weekend at home (£30 for the train, the rest is my spending money through the week)

Oh, and the reason why i'm home is because i am attending a wedding evening party tonight, that will be fun!
